What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal method recognized by the FDA. Electrolysis uses an electrical current to destroy cells responsible for hair growth within the follicle. A tiny, sterile probe is inserted into each hair follicle to be treated. Once inside the follicle a small amount of current is applied in as little as one-thousandth of a second. This allows many hairs to be treated quickly and effectively. The hairs are released by the current and then removed with tweezers. This quick method allows for a comfortable and fast way to effectively rid you of your unwanted hair.

Is Electrolysis really permanent?

Yes!  Electrolysis is all about timing and intensity.  Your electrologist can choose from three different modalities for each client's individual needs.  Inserting the probe allows direct contact with the cells that produce hair growth.  When current is applied to the follicle it destroys these cells and the hair can no longer regrow.

Is Electrolysis right for me?

The great thing about electrolysis is that it is safe and  effective for all hair textures, all hair colors and is safe for all skin tones.  There are many reasons both men and women turn to electrolysis.  Whether to improve ones appearance, to gain more self confidence or from dealing with other timely consuming, never ending hair removal methods. Many people also choose electrolysis to treat certain medical conditions that might cause excessive hair growth. Some of these conditions include, PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), taking different hormonal medications and having increased levels of testosterone.

Almost everyone can safely receive electrolysis treatments.  Certain medical conditions may require a physician's written approval.  Please let your electrologist know of any conditions you may have prior to your appointment.

We all have unwanted hairs that we don't want.  This can make us feel less confident, it can cause skin irritation and can cause skin complications.

Shaving, waxing or other methods of hair removal allows hair to keep growing back. This can promote new or worsening hair growth.  Over time, the inconvenience of these methods can lead to being more time consuming and expensive. Electrolysis treatments will give you permanent results while saving you time, money and frustrations.

Does Electrolysis hurt?

With electrolysis, you will not feel the insertions from the probe. What you will feel is the current that is being delivered to the follicle.  This sensation is very similar to a mosquito bite or slight sting.  Some areas are more sensitive than others.  The ability to adjust settings makes the treatments more tolerable for each client, while still being safe and effective.

How long will it take to permanently remove all my unwanted  hairs?

The amount of time and length of treatments depends on the amount of hair to be treated and the size of the area. Everyone is unique. Some clients may need an hour once a week and some may need as little as fifteen minutes once a month.  With time, treatments become shorter and less frequent as we destroy the hair growth cycles.  Hormonal conditions and certain medications can affect hair growth and may take longer.

How does electroloysis differ from laser?

Laser works by using amplified light to penetrate the skin and destroy hair follicles.  Laser works well for dark, coarse hair and light skin.  With electrolysis, we insert a tiny sterile probe directly into each hair follicle.  Permanency is achieved with electrolysis by the probe making direct contact with the hair follicles.  The current that is delivered, heats up the follicle and destroys the cells within. With a series of treatments, the hairs become weaker and finer and take longer to grow back in between treatments.  When all the hair germ cells are destroyed, the follicles can no longer reproduce hair, and permanency will be achieved. Electrolysis is a great method of hair removal as it works on any hair color, thickness and is safe for all skin types.  If a person has light colored and fine hairs, the light from the laser will not absorb enough light for the follicles to be effectively destroyed.  Darker complexions absorb too much light and not enough light is absorbed within the follicles.  This prevents the hair follicles from being destroyed and the hair continues to return and regrow.
